Rare is the person who can enjoy for long a job that does not measure up to his or her values. Values aren’t confined to things you believe in strongly, such as honesty or integrity.
They can also represent standards which you personally apply to the kind of job you want and need. For example, you may feel strongly about working in the outdoors, or in a foreign country. Or, you may feel a duty to work among the homeless.
You may sense that you will be unhappy in a job that is not limited to 9-5, or that does not offer regular advancement and early retirement, or one that will not make you rich.
The point is that everyone measures work by the extent to which it recognizes his or her own values.

If values are so important, why not begin to build a sense of your own work values. We have prepared a list of eighty-two values. Some are the BIG VALUES, the principles that guide everyone, and some are PERSONAL VALUES, values that you yourself bring to the job.
We assess your values by asking you to run through our cards and pick the ten that mean the most to you. Your selections will become an important part of your feedback conference and will serve as guideposts in your career.
